I am thrilled to announce that my concept “NANO” won the second prize at the Nasscom Animation & Gaming expo 2007 held at Hyatt on 1st and 2nd November 2007. The concept was really liked by the audience. I am now looking forward to collaborate with potential studios to produce this concept. Also find below the entire presentation slides which will be up for a limited period of time. I am sure students will benefit from the presentation.

…From gaming the pitch moved back into animation with Yogi Chopra’s pitch ‘Nano’, the concept of which was refreshingly fresh. “I’m not an animator but a writer and very new in the field of animation,” shared Yogi. Nano is about an alien who lives in an environment where there is no one and has to rely on technology. In the series, conflict is the antagonist. Yogi is looking at making Nano into an episodic series with each episode being 3-5 minutes long and which could be aired 4-6 times a day. “Nano has no linguistic barriers as there is no dialogue, finished Yogi. It must be mentioned here that Yogi came second in the Super Pitch.

In May 2005, I was approached by my existing client Dignity Foundation for clicking senior citizens for their upcoming exhibition Senior citizen collection. As a digital photography enthusiast i got an opportunity to experiment with this subject. Clicking mature faces is so easy and smooth. With maturity and age comes this great confidence and energy. I feel seniors are truly very flexible. The whole experience was not about travelling to many corners of mumbai to click these seniors and work on photoshop to enhance their photos. The experience is about understanding them and sometimes their houses for better light and the right area to shoot. Some homes almost mesmerized me!. All of them were so enthusiastic with the fact that someone was coming to click them. Also the new generation has loads to learn from these seniors. In comparison to them we even lack the most basic etiquettes. Every single senior irrespective of their age and condition made it a point to escort me to the door and give me blessings. Most of them were even ready to come till their building gate to leave me. Even the eldest Mrs Kurva (84) made it a point that she escorted me till her door step. It was truly heartening.
Sometimes I wonder can we be equally sensitive and courteous to people around us.

Key points i kept in mind before shooting Seniors:

1)  A sepia tone to give it a classic feel.

2) To ensure there is enough light in the room or shoot near a window. Also i dont shoot using Flash or any other artificial light source as i dont know about lighting. Also i love the challenge of shooting in natural light.

3) The Background should represent them and their lifestyle.

4) They could also shoot with their collectibles but its not always necessary.

5) Make them feel as comfortable as possible. The best way is to chat with them for a good time before you shoot.

6) Always be polite and never seem in a hurry to leave.

7) Also the Golden Rule- Make a friend!

Take as many shots as possible. Don’t hesitate to change the shot if the background doesn’t work for you.

Our Entry for Superpitch, Nasscom 2007 has been selected. This will give us a great opportunity to present our idea to the industry.  We better pull up our socks and prepare for the final presentation.   Keep a watch on this section!

As interactive designers we need to consider various elements that actually make a design. Colour plays a very important part in any design. We need to play with colours depending on the product and the communication. Few good resources in understanding colour harmony.

1) Colour Schema Studio – A windows application which allows us to pick and choose colour combinations > http://www.colorschemer.com/

2) While attending the Seminar on Adobe cs3 products they demonstrated a new tool in Adobe illustrator which allows us to change colours combinations. So you can change the mood of your product with just one click. I think that was an awesome option.

As designers we are always challenged by the golden question which we often ask ourselves- Shall we design for 1024×768 or play it safe by designing for 800×600 resolution. As designers we are seeing a rapid trend which is really moving fast towards 1024. We have kept check of the visitor hits on our various client websites. So we decided to make a screen resolution hit counter which is an average percentage of all the websites we have designed!

Total Average hits (in percentage) for both the resolutions

800×600 ——- 22%
1024×768——- 68%
Others——— 10%

Resolutions more than 1024 are picking momentum. (report date: 0ct 17, 2007)

We are planning to create all pre-production material in the form of:

1) Detailed Synopsis 2) All Major characters 3) Some still scenes

I almost missed it. But there I was, with my gal pals - radka and piyu,chatterin away as the harbour train took us to our destination -

Sterling 3.30 pm show Shrek 3. It was an office outing, all of us had decided to take a break from work, and go watch a movie.

I had expected the whole WAS gang to travel together, but as usual somethin urgent came up, and I was the chosen one to do the job.The task - A leaflet had be designed in exactly 15 minutes( and that too in coreldraw, OMG!)

Being acquainted with my sloooow (and steady too) creativity the guys decided to leave before us to arrange for the movie tickets. Anyways, in the end, impatient of me fiddling around with fonts and colours,Yogi took up the job, and finished it in wat I now remember as 5 mins. Quickly, the file was sent and then…..Ok, I’ll cut the crap.

The movie was good. It opens with the beautiful scene where Charming ( I envy his silky hair..) is riding in the woods…and then goes on to a kinduf scary scene of a shirtless

Shrek on the bed. Yikes!( Actually, “Baapre!” was my exact reaction)

I enjoyed the movie, purely because I was fascinated by the fact that everything was

made on a computer. The whole things spectacular, a pleasure to watch.

Content-wise I liked Shrek 2 a lot more. I found the story and humour in Shrek 3 to be quite childish and okayish… (Rapunzel’s wig fallin off, babies puking, the loony magic teacher…) Its amusing, but not hilarious. The movie has guest appearances by Rapunzel, Cinderella, Snow white, Sleeping beauty…and all of them seemed to have the same face ( That of Bridget Fonda, hehe ). And they all looked so weird playing shallow high society

women! Frankly speaking, I didnt like the way Cinderella is portrayed (but its all supposed to be funny. So whatever)

Ofcourse I enjoyed the movie, but in bits in pieces.

Scenes I liked :- The villains attacking the farfaraway city, the charlie’s angels meets feminism sequence, the scenes between the donkey and his cute babies. The best and funniest scene is the one where the gingerbread man’s life flashes before his eyes before his impending death. Damn funny.

The movie brings together many characters from classic fairytales, so you’ll enjoy the movie more if you still remember those stories now. I couldnt place some of them.

All in all, its a fun timepass movie, in my opinion. Go watch it, my friends loooved it, you might too.
