the big question?

As designers we are always challenged by the golden question which we often ask ourselves- Shall we design for 1024×768 or play it safe by designing for 800×600 resolution. As designers we are seeing a rapid trend which is really moving fast towards 1024. We have kept check of the visitor hits on our various client websites. So we decided to make a screen resolution hit counter which is an average percentage of all the websites we have designed!

Total Average hits (in percentage) for both the resolutions

800×600 ——- 22%
1024×768——- 68%
Others——— 10%

Resolutions more than 1024 are picking momentum. (report date: 0ct 17, 2007)

    I think its best to keep the most critical
    content ( like the main navigation)within 800×600 area, using the rest of the space for less important things or design elements.
    Thats what I do
